for my friends.. you can try this as its really simple to make. I always choose receipe's that are quick n easy !!..
Deep Fried pastry twists, hearts or knots traditionallly flavoured with Vin santo- a sherry like Italian Wine, are served hot dusted with confectioners sugar, at Italian Carnival Time.
-------INGREDIENTS-------
Makes about 40
2 1/4 cups flour
1 egg
pinch of salt
2 tbsp sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tbsp butter, melted
vegetable oil for deep frying
confectioners sugar for dusting
1 sift the flour into a large mixing bown and make a well in the centre.
Add the egg, salt, sugar, vanilla extract and melted butter
2. Mix with your hands until the mixture starts to come together. When the dough becomes stiff, add enough sherry
to make the dough soft and pliable. Knead until smooth and then wrap and chill for about 1 hour.
3. roll out the pastry thinly and cut into forty 7 x 1/2 inch strips. Tie each one loosely into a knot.
4. Heat the oil in a pan an deep fry the pastry twists in batches for about 2-3 minutes, until puffed and golden brown.
_ i also cut out dove shapes- so if u have any other cutters it should be fine.
